1. Participants will identify how to use the Ethical code as a framework to deliberate ethical considerations in professional work.
2. Participates will describe how to use available resources in decision making regarding professional practice.
Presenter: Dr. Shawn McCall is a psychologist who is currently practicing in California, and he has a broad array of professional experiences that inform his work with children, parents, and families. Dr. McCall has been active in the professional community, including past treasurer of the Santa Clara County Psychological Association being a past president of the San Francisco Psychological Association, being the current chairperson of the Ethics committee of the same. In this presentation, Shawn McCall, PsyD, will identifying and discuss some of the questions and concerns that members have asked over the past several years. Topics will include: Can I invest in my client’s company? Can I talk to my adult client’s parent(s) about treatment when the parent pays the bill? My client is having a hard financial time, can I waive the copay and bill insurance? How do I respond when people other than my client want to talk to me about a client’s treatment? Is it okay to receive my checks with checks to other practitioners’ from a bill payment company in the same envelope? What am I mandated to report? Do I really have to make a report? Do I report about an adult being abused? I’d really like to get my business going, can I use testimonials?
CPA is co-sponsoring with SFPA. The California Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. Attendees will receive CE credits for this course.
Those who attend the workshop and complete the CPA evaluation form will receive 1.5 continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
