In this presentation, San Francisco psychologist Kirk Schneider will present an overview of existential-integrative (EI) therapy and its evolution in the broader context of the field of contemporary psychotherapy.  Following an overview of the EI approach and to illustrate its application, Dr. Schneider will show and discuss a brief excerpt of a therapy session he conducted for the APA video series "Existential-Humanistic Therapy Over Time” (see apa.org/videos)." As past president  (2015-2016) of  Division 32 (the Society for Humanistic Psychology) of the APA and Chair of the Division 32 Task Force on The Humanistic-Relational Reform of APA Clinical Graduate Training, Dr. Schneider will also give an update on inroads EI and other humanistic therapies are making in becoming recognized as evidence-based practices within the broader field of psychotherapy, research, and training. These inroads were also underscored by a recent Special Issue of the March, 2016 Journal of Psychotherapy Integration on Existential-Humanistic Therapy Integration.  There will also be a live demonstration of EI practice offered as well as a group exercise and discussion.
